A coalition of lawmakers and disabled groups, including the federally funded independent state agency, the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities, are pushing for a legislative resolution requiring the Department of Health and Human Services to come up with a seven-year plan to deal with the problem, particularly providing Illinois’ disabled community with more services at a local level and moving away from institutionalization.
